Biten Kathrani is the Director R&D and NBD, Asia Middle East & Africa at Boston Scientific, a leading medical devices company. In his current role, he is responsible for leading Innovation and R&D for emerging markets for BSC portfolio of Interventional Cardiology, Peripheral Interventions, Endoscopy, Urology and Interventional Oncology. Biten was instrumental in building Boston Scientific first strategic R&D center in Asia in Gurgaon India. This center is focused on developing global and emerging market products and also has an in house IP analytics team. He has been in the healthcare / medical device industry for 23+ years. Prior to Boston Scientific, he led the medical device R&D at Johnson & Johnson (J&J) for Emerging markets in Asia Pacific and prior to that he was associated with a start-up for 5 years leading R&D and Innovation.
During the two decades of his career, he has held various positions in Asia Pacific and USA. His experiences involve R&D, New Business development, Intellectual Property Analytics, New Ventures and Voice of Customer enabled innovation for medical devices.
From 2009 to 2012, Biten was based in USA and worked with J&J venture capital group wherein, he led the diligence for white space disease and technology platforms and several internal and external investments including the Stanford India Biodesign corporate funding program. These investments led to several entrepreneurial innovations focused on emerging markets.
Biten holds an MBA from the ivy league Wharton Business School, an M. Tech in Biomedical Engineering from IIT Mumbai; and he is a certified Patent Agent with the India Patent Office. He has launched more that 12 products and has 3 granted patents and several filed in this name.
