Dealing with Healthcare Data for Clinicians

Dr. Tavpritesh Sethi is a physician-scientist and Associate Professor of Computational Biology at Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi, India and a fellow of the Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India. Over the past two years, he has been a visiting faculty member at Stanford University, School of Medicine from February 2017 to January 2019. He received his M.B.B.S from Government Medical College, Amritsar and PhD from CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, New Delhi, India. Dr. Sethi specializes in improving outcomes in neonatal, child and maternal health by bridging medicine and artificial intelligence. His research is focused on development and deployment of machine-learning based solutions to enable decisions and policy in pressing healthcare questions such as antimicrobial resistance, sepsis and health inequalities in intensive care and public health settings. He has authored over 20 research articles and has been a recipient of MIT-TR35 India Innovators under 35, Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance Early Career Award. He is an editorial board member of PLOS One, Systems Medicine and Journal of Genetics. Dr. Sethi is a member of the European Association of Systems Medicine and leads the Australasia region for International Association of Systems and Networks Medicine (IASyM).
Dr. Gitanjali Yadav is a Data Scientist with expertise in Genomics and Network Visualisation. Dr. Gitanjali Yadav is currently a Scientist at NIPGR New Delhi, as well as Adjunct Professor of Data Science at IISER Bhopal. For the past five years, she was a Lecturer at the University of Cambridge, on a Joint Deputation Program between India and the U.K. She has a diverse educational profile with a Ph.D. in Computational Biology from the National Inst of Immunology (JNU), a Master’s degree in Biomedical Research and a Graduate degree in Botany, from the University of Delhi, India.
Dr. Yadav has received several awards, including the Hamied Fellowship from the University of Cambridge 2022, Exceptional Talent Award from the Royal Society of London 2016, INSA Medal (2011), and the SASTRA Obaid Siddiqi Life Science Award 2021. She actively promotes science as a way of life to students in schools and colleges, and has been a mentor for Women in Science (WiS) at various national and international fora. During the Coronavirus Pandemic, she began conducting a series of free online training programs in Data Science and Complex Networks, under the name “Protocols From Home”, in order to help students pick up vital skills in Computational Biology and make the best use of their time under global lockdown.

He had been deputy chief medical officer of United Nations, visited/served in 42 countries, adjunct professor of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, (MIT) Zaragoza, Spain, Director of Healthcare Asia for Lean Healthcare Excellence-Simpler, Chairman Board- Indian Society of Health Professionals, and consultant of National Disaster Management Authority. He was president of AHA, founder director of International Institute of Health Management Research, Adjunct research Professor- International Health Innovation Centre, Ivey School of Business, Canada, Chairman, Health Care Division of Quality Council of India. Developed European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) model for Healthcare in India released by Union Health Minister.
Presently, Managing Director-InnovatioCuris and Chairman InnovatioCuris Foundation of Healthcre and Excellence (ICFHE) and Adjunct Professor-World Health Innovation Network, Odette School of Business, University of Windsor, Canada. He is also an Honorary Professor at Australian Institute of Health Innovation, Macquaire University, Australia. Visiting professor of Indian Institute Management and Indian Institute of Technology. He has also authored three books “Innovations in Healthcare Management: Cost-Effective and Sustainable Solutions” published in USA, 2015 which has been awarded Shingo Award of Repute in 2018 and has a special India edition adopted by reputed Management schools and another book published on “Planning and designing healthcare facilities – A lean innovative evidence based approach”, published in USA. Dr. M. Vishnu Vardhana Rao is the Director of the ICMR-National Institute of Medical Statistics (NIMS), Indian Council of Medical Research, New Delhi. He is a trained mathematical statistician and data scientist. He has a Masters and PhD in Statistics and M.Tech (IT). Dr Rao’s has over three decades of experience in planning, executing and analyzing data for several large scale community and clinical based research studies in the domain of nutrition and health. His research focuses on the development and application of innovative and appropriate statistical methods for analysis of large and complex data. His work also encompasses several evidence based and policy relevant research studies. He is also an administrator for Clinical Trial Registry India (CTRI) is a free and online public record system for registration of clinical trials being conducted in India which has been made mandatory by the Drugs Controller General (India) (DCGI). He served as an International consultant for UNICEF. He has more than 125 papers published in national and international journals and 20 reports to his credit. He guided several post graduates towards obtaining PhD degree in the areas of Multivariate data Analysis, Meta-Analysis and statistical methods in AI & Big data analytics. He is the head of AI Cell, ICMR and Chief Editor for Demography India.

Dr. Jaanus Pikani has been a practicing surgeon in head and neck oncology, hospital manager of National Cancer Centre and Tartu University Hospitals (www.kliinikum.ee). He was secretary-general of the Ministry of Social Affairs of Estonia and the chief of staff of the President of Estonia.
Dr. Pikani has been an active member of the team that orchestrated the transition of Estonian health care from the Soviet-type system to the most cost-efficient health care system globally recognized by the World Bank. Dr. Pikani was among the initiators and architects of the Estonian Genome Project (www.geenivaramu.ee/en), a globally unique population-based health and genome databank of 50,000 participants or 5% of Estonian population as of now.
Currently Jaanus is an entrepreneur and consultant in health care, medical technology, and technology infrastructure companies. Dr. Jaanus Pikani is the chairman of the Tartu Biotechnology Park (www.biopark.ee) and board member of a number of life science and health care companies. He is also chairman of ScanBalt, a biotech meta-cluster organization in ScanBalt BioRegion, composed of the health and bio-economy communities in Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Northern Germany, Northern Netherlands and North-Western Russia with more than 60 universities and over 3000 companies active in the region (www.scanbalt.org).
Shipra is the CEO & MD, DRIIV (Delhi Research Implementation and Innovation), an initiative of the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Govt. of India. She has a B.Tech. degree from I.I.T. Kanpur (2002) in Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering and an MBA from ISB Hyderabad (2004). She has 18+ years of management and leadership experience in Fortune 500 companies (such as GE, Lloyds Bank) in UK, where her diverse roles included Relationship Management with large institutional clients in financial services industry, Government Relations, and Regulatory liaison with Central Banks in Europe. She has won several accolades in her career, including recognition for her work on advising the UK Government on the housing related policies that led to the revival of the housing market after the credit crunch of 2008-12. Shipra also has entrepreneurial experience by virtue of being the co-founder of Kabeela.life Ventures, an innovation ecosystem for bringing together investors, corporates and growth stage ventures for cross-border commercialization.

Utkarsh Uppal is an Applied Deep Learning Solutions Architect at NVIDIA. His work is centered around building Accelerated Deep Learning pipelines involving domains like Computer Vision and Conversational AI for Higher Education & Research Institutes (HERs) and enterprise organization. He primarily focuses on model development, integration, and end-to-end pipeline optimization in Language and Vision, specifically around Large Language Models and Indic languages. Dr. Vijay Agarwal, President – CAHO a crusader for Continual Quality Improvement in Healthcare, has a vision to raise the bar of Indian Healthcare Organizations to match Global Standards, through CAHO which is a national body of repute for promoting patient safety, healthcare quality protocols and accreditation.
He believes that ‘People Make Quality’. Driven by this passionate belief, a series of CAHO Certified Professional Courses were established to equip and train every healthcare professional to pursue the quality journey.
He was instrumental, in the country adopting pulse polio strategy for Polio Eradication and also played a key role in shaping the Bio Medical Waste Management Scheme in Delhi.
He was a member of the ISRO Health Quest Project, a unique collaboration between space scientists and healthcare professionals to take the country closer to the goal of “error-free” healthcare.
He is a post-graduate in paediatrics from the Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi. He commenced his professional career in 1973, has over the decades earned a sterling reputation as a Paediatrician and has been recognised by IMA as Hony Professor.

Dr. Harsh Mahajan is an eminent radiologist and a pioneer in the field of Magnetic Resonance Imaging of India. The national honour of Padma Shri was conferred on him by the government of India in the year 2002, for his contribution to the field of radiology in India. After specializing in Radiology from PGIMER, Chandigarh, he was awarded a Rotary Foundation International Scholarship and went to the world famous M.D Anderson Cancer Hospital at Houston, Texas, USA for a superspecialist fellowship in Magnetic Resonance Imaging in 1987. He did original research in cancer imaging using MRI and published several clinical research papers in leading international medical journals. Despite being offered a permanent job on the faculty of this hospital he preferred to come back to India with a dream of bringing the latest technology of India.

Sachin Gaur is a researcher cum entrepreneur in space of mobile and Internet solutions. He was in top 10 innovators in India under India Innovates Growth Programme 2013 by FICCI. He has founded/invested in multiple ventures in the domain of digital marketing, mobile solutions and Internet of Things. He has a double M.Sc.(tech) in Mobile Security and Cryptography from Aalto University, Finland and University of Tartu, Estonia. He has worked in past with organizations like Adobe, C.E.R.N. and in research at the Aalto University in security related topics.

Dr. Vibha has done MBA from Symbiosis International University, post attaining my medical graduate degree from LLRM Medical College, and keen on improving healthcare delivery and outcomes by adopting best practices, healthcare digitalization and adoption of newer technologies like AI/ML and new innovations. She believes in improving adoption, increasing efficiencies, and creating options to have structured data for analysis and research to aide in improving clinical outcomes, standardizing care protocols, facilitating decision support and move towards prescriptive and personalized medicine.
With the changing health care scenario in post covid era, she is currently working as a consultant, contributing her bit towards creating an environment of holistic well being aided by digital healthcare tools and technologies.

Sunita CHAUHAN (Ph.D., DIC, Medical Robotics, Imperial College of Science Technology and Medicine, London, UK -1999) is a Professor at the Mechanical and Aerospace Dept., Faculty of Engineering; Director of Mechatronics Engineering Program (one of the core Eng. branches at Monash); Chief Investigator of the BmRAS (Biomechatronics, Robotics & Automated Systems) research group at Monash University, Australia.
Her current research interests include three main areas:
Medical/Surgical Robotics (including Computer Assisted and Integrated Surgery, Medical Ultrasound – Imaging, Therapeutic and Surgical ultrasound, Tissue characterization, Image, and Sensor-data processing/fusion/interpretation and the like;
- Intelligent Diagnostics and Robotics in Infrastructural Healthcare (High-rise Buildings, Railways, Aerospace, Defense/Airforce, Solar farms, etc.);
- Mechatronics & Automation in Sports Eng.
Chauhan worked as Associate Professor at the Mechatronics and Design Division, School of MAE, Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) and Systems Eng. Dept. at Newcastle University (UK) prior to joining Monash. Other concurrent positions included Focus-group lead for Bio-Design, Bio-Robotics (Robotic Systems addressing aspects of clinical activity) of the Intelligent Devices and Systems, IDEAS Cluster, NTU; Principal Investigator of the BIDS research group at the Robotics Research Center, NTU.

She had been an invited keynote speaker and expert panel member in various Intl conferences and many scientific and public events, invited to hold special conference sessions, invited for expert IntL review panel of FP7 European grants. Her work caught IntL media attention several times and published in leading newspapers and scientific magazines.
She has supervised national and internationally-funded research projects and is a sole/principal inventor of several patents granted/pending related to her research. Sunita Chauhan delivered more than 50 invited talks and participated in various short courses/workshops conducted by local as well as overseas organizations. She is a reviewer of several international journals and conferences, and participates actively in their program and organizing committees as general chair, specialized session-chair, track-chair, publicity-chair, etc.

Dr. Kamini Khillan is a blood transfusion specialist. She is working as a senior consultant in blood transfusion services at Sir Ganga Ram hospital. She has also worked as a Quality Manager at Sir Ganga Ram hospital, established Quality Management System (QMS) for accreditation by NABH organization for blood banks and as immunohematology specialist. Also worked under the areas like patient blood management, research on transfusion-related immunomodulation, ABOi kidney transplant titer Standardization.
Dr. Kamini Khillan has thirteen years of experience in blood transfusion medicine services. She has served as a member of the expert panel group for developing pan India Blood Bank Networking and Training the Trainer protocols by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Dr. Debleena Bhattacharya holds a doctoral degree in Environmental Science from Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad (India), where a major part of her doctoral research was to perform a comprehensive study based on the treatment of antibiotic residuals in the anaerobic hybrid reactor.
Her major skills are of Wastewater engineering and Treatment and eradication of toxic residues from water bodies (by anaerobic bacteria) which might lead to health issues in the near future.
At present she is working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering in MEFGI, Gujarat, India. Prior to joining MEFGI, Dr Debleena Bhattacharya worked in SRISTI (Society for Research and Initiatives for Sustainable Technologies and Institutions), an NGO based in Ahmedabad, joined as Research Fellow for BIRAC (Biotechnology Industrial Research Assistance Council) and gradually escalated as Project Co-Ordinator for BIRAC-SRISTI PMU,a joint venture of Government of India & NGO apart from being the laboratory Co-ordinator of SRISTI LAB.

building businesses and making a difference. Because of his deep interest in Augmented Reality(AR) and Virtual Reality(VR), he started Sattvarise Technologies in 2014. In 2015, they launched the 1st ever AR app for the tiles industry in India for tiles giant Johnson Tiles. Over the years, the company has built more than 40+ AR-VR solutions for their clients in various sectors which include Manufacturing, Industrial, Education, Entertainment, Healthcare, Pharmaceuticals, Real estate, and Interior design.
As he was continuing his entrepreneurial journey, he got selected for Flame University’s Flame Origins Program along with 7 other entrepreneurs. The program helped him to learn and practice different business aspects, network, and brainstorm with fellow entrepreneurs and mentors. Devdatta’s curiosity and a keen interest in AR and VR, he spotted the next opportunity.
The top 3 markets for AR, and VR are Gaming, Healthcare, and Education. Considering India’s education, there is still a long way to go to give the best technological tools for students to practice. He explored medical education, talked with many doctors and professors, and understood their challenges. After identifying the gap, Devdatta decided to change the course of Medical Education in India. He launched a product called DEFTXR with the idea that medical students can benefit from these 3D technologies to learn and practice the skills needed for their medical proficiency. Also, DEFTXR has a teaching version which helps Professors in imparting knowledge with ease.

Dr. Hara Prasad Mishra is a physician at the University of Delhi, India, and a medico-legal consultant. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Law and Ethics (PGDMLE) from the prestigious NLSIU, Bangalore, and has experience working as a consultant and in other leadership positions on different projects with the Government of India, MNCs, and health-tech startups during the past few years. His understanding of the constitutional dimension of the “right to health,” the obligations of medical professionals , emerging issues in the field of medicine like pandemics, clinical trials, regulations, and complex issues such as “consent,” “confidentiality,” surrogacy, and euthanasia help him take informed decisions that are also legitimate in law and develop more ethical healthcare policies. He is comprehensive in his approach to contemporary medicolegal case narratives and the legal, economic, and practical dimensions of different types of intellectual property rights such as copyright, patents, trademarks, geographical indications, designs, and trade secrets.
Dr. Mishra also has interests in areas such as clinical pharmacology, digital health, computational medicine, and integrative medicine, in addition to medical law and ethics.
