Dr. Yasmin Ali Haque joined as the UNICEF Representative in India in July 2017. Prior to this, she served as Deputy Director of Emergency Programmes at UNICEF Headquarters in New York where she played a lead role in coordination of emergency programmes and policies for effective UNICEF response for children in a humanitarian crisis.

Dr. Haque’s leadership and professional experience spans over a wide range of fields including policy analysis, strategic planning for maternal health and maternal mortality reduction, child rights, and leading child-centric development programmes and large-scale humanitarian responses.

From 2010 to 2013, Dr. Haque served as the first UNICEF Representative to South Sudan. Her previous postings include UNICEF Representative to Ghana from 2007-2010 and UNICEF’s Deputy Representative in Sri Lanka 2004-2007. She joined UNICEF as a Health Specialist in 1996.

A national of Bangladesh, Dr. Yasmin Ali Haque holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) from Dhaka Medical College, Bangladesh (1985), and a Master’s of Science degree in Health Systems Management from London University (2002).
