Dr. Sonal Saxena is graduate and postgraduate from Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi. She is currently Director Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi. She has been actively involved in teaching MBBS, MD, Nursing and MLT students and is currently also involved in the medical education cell of the institute.

Dr. Sonal has been Supervisor and co-supervisor in many dissertations and is actively involved in many research projects. She has been examiner at MBBS, DNB and MD level, and MCI inspector. Her main areas of interest include antibiotics resistance detection and surveillance.

Dr. Sonal Saxena was awarded WHO fellowship on Antimicrobial resistance at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden in 2012. She is currently Joint Secretary of the Indian Association of Medical Microbiology and secretary of IAMM-Delhi Chapter.

Dr. Sonal Saxena was Joint organizing Secretary and editor of souvenir of the 36th Annual Conference on IAMM “MICROCON” held at IHC Delhi on November 2012. She has worked as a subject expert on Prehospital Trauma Technician course and in drafting National Treatment Guidelines for Antimicrobial use infectious diseases for the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

She has been the WHO Resource person to develop National Antimicrobial Stewardship Program for Government of Maldives in 2018 and has worked as WHO Resource person to impart WHONET training at NPHL, Kathmandu Nepal in 2018.

Dr. Sonal Saxena has worked as member on various committees such as technical and advisory committee for development of National Action Plan on AMR, Delhi state action plan on AMR, Scientific Advisory Group-Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) Project Review Committee (OMI), ICMR, Departmental Board of Studies in Microbiology, School of Medical Sciences & Research, Sharda University.

She is currently involved in Indo Norway project and NeoOBS project funded by GARDP and DNDi. She has written a book on bacteriology, teaching modules for IGNOU and has authored many national and international publications.

Dr. Sonal Saxena has written a chapter entitled “Regulatory issues in antibiotics” in Monograph on antibiotics Use and Misuse published by the Association of Physicians of India and Indian College of Physicians, 2015. She has also authored a chapter in prestigious Chicken soup series (“Chicken soup for the Indian Doctors
Soul”).
