Prof. A.K. Gupta, Medical Superintendent-cum-Professor & Head, Department of Hospital Administration nick named as Teacher of Teachers started his academic career as faculty at AIIMS, New Delhi in 1988 and later joined PGIMER, Chandigarh as Medical Superintendent and Head, Department of Hospital Administration in January, 1996 where he is working since then (21 + Years). He is trained in U.K. and was awarded Commonwealth Medical Fellowship for one year in 1991-92, availed at University of Liverpool, U.K. He has been short term consultant to World Health Organization (SEARO), New Delhi, an International Consultant to World Health Organization, Nepal and has provided training/consultation in Hospital Administration to the doctors belonging to Government of Nepal, Maldives, and Indonesia. He successfully conducted Management Development Programme for doctors working under National Rural Health Mission, Government of India and was also nominated as Team Leader of Capacity Building Programme for senior functionaries of 6 AIIMS and top officials, administrative functionaries of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare under Pradhan Mantry Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). Prof. Gupta has been involved as Expert Member in various high level Committees of Government of India viz. permanent Special invitee in Project Management Committee under the Pardhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana of Govt. of India (PMSSY); Member from 2005-2010, Technical Evaluation Committee under PMSSY, Govt. of India etc. He took the initiative and started postgraduate course in Hospital Administration at PGI, Chandigarh, has organized a number of symposiums, CMEs, workshops and conferences on Hospital Management. Prof. Gupta has highest scientific contribution in the discipline of hospital administration with many scientific papers in national and international journals of high impact factor and citation index, and paper presentations in India and abroad. Recently, his team was conferred with Skoch Order-of-Merit during the 47th Skoch Summit on 17th – 18th March, 2017 New Delhi. He has received State Award for meritorious public service (A Gold Medal, Citation and Rs.51000/- been donated to the poor patient fund of the Institute) awarded by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir on Republic Day, 2014. Institute has been awarded Healthcare Excellence Award under the category Most Effective Health Technology System for developing software under his leadership in March, 2016. Prof. Gupta has many awards to his credit. He was instrumental in winning the first prize of Rs 5 crore under the Centre’s ‘Kayakalp’ programme for the year 2015-16 and Cleanest Public Tertiary Care Hospital in the country by the Ministry of Urban Development and Ministry of drinking water and Sanitation for the Institute. Prof. A.K Gupta and his team was conferred with Skoch Order-of-Merit for project: Improving hospital utilization by use of Information technology as a management tool and for Promoting Eye Donation through a scientifically managed Hospital Cornea Retrieval Program in September, 2016. Donations of equipment and items for the patient care services worth lakhs of rupees were also arranged through CSR (Corporate Social responsibility) for the Institute.
