Dr. Tapan Shah
Dr. Tapan Shah is a Harvard-trained physician-executive and gastroenterology/HPB surgeon who transitioned from a high-volume clinical career into global healthcare consulting. With over two decades of combined clinical, strategic, and digital-transformation leadership across the U.S., Europe, Africa, and India, he brings a rare blend of frontline medical expertise and systems-level policy vision.
His consulting journey spans McKinsey’s SHaPE practice, Deloitte Digital, and senior leadership roles at VOS Healthcare, CQ Ventures, and Exponential Capital. At McKinsey, he advised payer, provider, and government ecosystems—shaping initiatives within U.S. Medicare and Medicaid, the Veterans Affairs system, and major hospital networks. At Deloitte, he led digital transformation programs in biotech, medtech, and pharmaceuticals, driving EHR modernization, value-chain redesign, and national digital-health strategies across Norway, the NHS (UK), Rwanda, and the Middle East.
Currently, Dr. Shah serves as an OSD (Officer on Special Duty) on contractual appointment with India’s Ministry of Health and Ministry of Labour, where he is leading the creation of nationwide digital social-security and reimbursement platforms powered by IT, AI, ML, and advanced analytics. His work spans ESIC, pensioner schemes such as CGHS and ECHS, and public health programs including Ayushman Bharat—integrating these into a unified, interoperable digital backbone for India’s social-security health ecosystem.
In parallel, he is developing a country-wide ecosystem to merge global medtech and biotech innovation with domestic manufacturing, translational research, and commercialization pathways—advancing India’s Make in India / Atmanirbhar Bharat vision in high-end medical technology and life sciences.
Blending the precision of a surgeon with the strategic depth of a systems thinker, Dr. Tapan Shah continues to shape next-generation digital health, population-health equity, and public-sector modernization across continents.
